Electronic NID
The electronic identity card is a certificate issued by the General Directorate of Police that physically and digitally attests to the identity of the cardholder.
The electronic signature incorporated into the electronic ID card guarantees user authentication, message integrity and irrefutability.
You can apply for this certificate at one of the electronic ID card issuing offices.
The validity of the electronic ID card is the same as that of the traditional ID card. However, the certificates contained in the electronic ID card may not be valid for more than five years.
Before using the electronic ID card, you must have certain hardware (a card reader) and software that allow access to the chip on the card and the use of the certificates it contains.
If you use the certificate to sign documents (emails, PDF documents, etc.) or to carry out an online procedure, you must configure the software you will be using for this purpose.
You can find various manuals (for signing emails, signing PDF documents and online procedures) for configuring the e-DNI on the UAB Intranet, in the `Authentication and signing¿ section::
