Elections to the Councils of University Research Institutes and UAB Research Centres

This information and the regulations are in the process of being updated as from the date when the new UAB Statutes come into force (14 March 2025).

 

The institute or research centre council is the collegiate governing body of the university research institutes and research centres of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and is chaired by the director of the centre. It meets in an ordinary session at least once a year.

 

Composition and regulations

The council of the institute or research centre is made up of all full-time academic staff, a representation of the rest of the academic staff and trainee research staff, as well as the technical, management, administrative and services staff assigned to the centre, under the terms established by its regulations.

 

Functions

The main tasks of the institute or research centre council are to:

  • Draw up and approve the centre's regulations.
  • Establish its academic and services organisation.
  • Elect and revoke the director of the centre.
  • Approve the activity plan.
  • Plan and coordinate doctoral teaching and continuing education of the centre.
  • Organise specialisation or dissemination courses, seminars, lecture series and other forms of technical advice, within the centre's lines of research.
  • VEnsure the quality of the research and other activities carried out by the research institute or centre.
  • Promote the formalisation of contracts with public or private entities to carry out scientific, technical or artistic work.
  • Prepare the budget and staffing proposal for the institute or research centre for approval by the Governing Council and incorporate it into the university's draft general budget.
  • Approve the list and distribution of expenditure, as well as its execution.
  • Approve the annual report presented by the director.
  • To propose the hiring of staff, for research purposes, to carry out temporary or specific work.

 

The elections of Councils of University Research Institutes and UAB Research Centres are held in person.
