User Guides: the e-voting process step by step
In this section you can consult information about the different stages of the e-voting process.
To sign in, so that you can vote electronically, you need to use your university user ID number (NIU) and password.
You can find your NIU, which is personal and non-transferable, on your UAB card. If you cannot remember your password you can write to http://sia.uab.es/gestio_pwd.html
To consult the electoral census and access the e-ballot boxes you will need to use the centralised two-factor authentication using your NIU and password. If you have already signed into an intranet session you can access the page directly.

(A) From the homepage of the electronic polling station you can "Access the census" for the corresponding election and sign in.
You need to sign in using your NIU and password. If you have already signed into an intranet session you can access the page directly.

(B) Check which elections and/or voting category you are registered for
When you make your consultation you can check which election and/or voting category you are registered for on the census and which you can also present your candidacy for:

If you belong to more than one sector or different centres you will be able to all the elections and/or voting categories that you are registered for and which you can present your candidacy for:

If no categories appear it means that you are not registered on the census:

(C) Sign out
Use the "Close session" button to sign out of the electoral census consultation. For security reasons your intranet session will also be closed.

(D) Changes to the provisional electoral census
If your name does not appear on the census or you want to make any changes you can register your request within the established time for each election.
For any changes should contact the centre that is organising the election in accordance with the rules set out in the election announcement. You can consult the voting process which is published on the website of the faculty, school or other organising body.
(A) On the web page for elections for the rector, deans or directors on the e-polling station go to Access e-voting and sign in.
On this page you can access the intranet which allows you to sign in and access e-voting for any of the current elections in which you are entitled to vote.
Click on " Access e-voting " for the election you want to vote in.
(B) Sign in using your NIU and password

IMPORTANT: Do not use the buttons on your browser to move up and down as this will block the platform for a few minutes for security reasons. The current rules for the e-voting system allow you to vote more than once to avoid coercion and errors. The system will only register the last vote cast by a voter.

You can vote in elections that are open.
Select the election you want to vote in.

To access the corresponding e-ballot box click on "See election".
This screen shows you the day and time of the start and end of the voting period and the status.
If you have already voted and want to vote again the status will show "You have voted (x) times" and the " Vote again " button will appear. The current rules for the e-voting system allow you to vote more than once to avoid coercion and errors. The system will only register the last vote cast by a voter.
The different election statuses are:
- Open: within the voting period
- Closed: the voting period has ended
- Pending: the voting period has not yet started
Language: this system allows you to vote in Catalan, Spanish or English. By default the language is that which you have your browser set to.
Click on "Vote"
If you are not on the census for an election this screen will appear.
Choose a candidate or the option to abstain. You can only choose one option.

You can find information about the candidates by clicking "Further information".

A new screen will open with access to the corresponding election website.
Once you have selected an option click "Review vote"
Once you have made a choice a screen will appear with the option you chose and you will be asked to confirm it before casting your vote in the e-ballot box.
You can see whether the option shown is correct and click "Confirm vote" or you can click "Change vote" to go back to the previous step.

Once you have reviewed the candidates click on "Confirm vote" to validate your choice
or "Change vote" to make changes.
If you choose more options than you are allowed or no options the program will send you a warning message.
The final screen in the e-voting process shows that your vote has been received and you can print out this vote receipt slip or convert it to PDF.
The receipt contains an alphanumerical code and a digital signature which ensures its authenticity.
To leave this screen click "Finish"
(D) Sign out
To finalise the voting process click the "Disconnect" button on the home screen. For security reasons your intranet session will also be closed.

People who can vote in more than one constituency in the same election will see them all on this screen. To vote in each one, they will have to do so in separate sessions.
Language: this system allows you to vote in Catalan, Spanish or English. By default the language is that which you have your browser set to.
Click on "vote"
If you are not on the census for an election this screen will appear.
Choose a candidate or candidates from the list or lists corresponding to your voting category.
You can mark up to the maximum number of names corresponding to the candidates standing for that voting category. The maximum number appears on the e-ballot paper. Candidates can be chosen from both the collective candidacies and the individual ones.
If you do not mark any name, it will be considered a "blank vote".
In accordance with the Electoral Regulations (art. 49 for elections to the Senate and art. 56 for elections to faculty or school boards):
In sectors A, B and D (academic staff, and technical, management, administrative and service staff) there is a single list with the names of the candidates in alphabetical order and it is indicated in brackets whether they belong to a collective or individual candidacy.

In sector C (students) there is a list for each of the collective candidates, in alphabetical order by name, and a list of individual candidates. The order of the candidates within the collective candidacies will be that proposed by the candidacy itself and the individual candidates will be ordered alphabetically.

If you do not mark any name, it will be considered a "blank vote".

Once you have selected the candidates click "Review vote"
Once you have made a choice a screen will appear with the option you chose and you will be asked to confirm it before casting your vote in the e-ballot box.
You can see whether the option shown is correct and click "Confirm vote" or you can click "Change vote" to go back to the previous step.

REGULATORY FRAMEWORK:
Election of union representatives Teaching and Research Staff Committee (government employees), Teaching and Research Staff Committee (non-government employees), Technical, Management, Administrative and Service Staff Committee (government employees), Technical, Management, Administrative and Service Staff Committee (non-government employees) are regulated under Royal Decree 1846/1994, of 9 September, which approves the Regulations for elections to representative bodies of staff working for the General State Administration.

If the voting period is still open you will get direct access to the ballot paper.
If the voting period is pending or closed you will be taken to a screen informing you of the election status.
This screen shows you the day and time of the start and end of the voting period and the status.
If you have already voted and want to vote again the status will show: "You have voted (x) times" and the "Vote again" button will appear. The current rules for the e-voting system allow you to vote more than once to avoid coercion and errors. The system will only register the last vote cast by a voter

If you are not included in the electoral census for a particular election you will see this screen
In this type of election you can only vote for one of the candidates presented by any of the union sections.
If you want to cast a blank vote, tick the box "Blank vote".
If you want your vote to be invalid, tick the "Spoilt ballot"
If you want to see the names of the different candidates on each list click the "More information" link.
A new page will open with the names of all the candidates for each of the union sections.
Tick the box corresponding to the list of candidates in which you want to cast your vote.
If you select more than one the program will send a warning.
Once you have made your choice a screen will appear with confirmation of the option you have selected and you will be asked to confirm this before you can cast you vote in the e-ballot box.
You can see whether the option shown is correct and click "Confirm vote" or you can click "Change vote" to go back to the previous step.

The final step of the e-voting process is the generation of a receipt. This document can be printed or saved as a PDF.
One the voting process period for an election is closed, you can check that your vote has been registered.
Follow these steps:
(A) From the homepage of the electronic polling station you can "Access receipt slip" for the corresponding election.
(B) Enter the alphanumerical code on the receipt slip and click "Search"
Important: Only enter between 3 and 20 characters on the receipt slip alphanumerical code.

(C) Check the result of the search.

You can vote with any of the following valid configurations:
- Any desktop computer with Windows 7 and Internet Explorer 11 or the latest version of Firefox or Chrome
- Any desktop computer with Windows 10 and Internet Explorer 11 or the latest version of Edge, Firefox or Chrome
- A Mac with Mac OS 10.12 and Safari
- Any desktop computer with Ubuntu and the latest version of Firefox or Chrome
- Any Android mobile phone with Android 6.x and Chrome mobile
- Any Android mobile phone with Android 7.x and Chrome mobile
- Any Android tablet with Android 6.x and Chrome mobile
- Any Android tablet with Android 7.x and Chrome mobile
- An iPhone with iOS 10.x and Safari mobile
- An iPad with iOS 10.x and Safari mobile
You cannot vote with the following combinations of device, browser and operating system:
- Any desktop computer with Internet Explorer 10 or an earlier version, on any operating system
- Any desktop computer with a version of Firefox earlier than 40 (inclusive), on any operating system
- Any mobile phone with any version of the Opera Mini Mobile browser
- Any Blackberry
- Any tablet with Android 4.3 and Android Browser 4
- Any tablet with Windows 8 and Internet Explorer 11
- An iPhone with iOS 7.x and Safari mobile
- An iPad with iOS 7.x and Safari mobile
- Any iPhone or iPad in private browsing mode

IMPORTANT
The current regulations for the electronic voting system allow for more than one vote to be cast to avoid coercion and errors. The system will only take into account the last vote the same voter has cast.
