Elections to the Departmental Councils

This information and the regulations are in the process of being updated as from the date when the new UAB Statutes come into force (14 March 2025).

 

The Departmental Council is the collegiate governing body of the department and is chaired by the Head of Department. It meets in ordinary session at least once a year.

 

Composition and Regulations

The Departmental Council is composed of all its academic staff with a doctorate and a representation of the rest, as well as a representation of research staff in training, administrative and service staff, and students, in the terms established by the regulations of each department.

 

Operation

The main responsibilities of the department council are:

  • To draw up and approve the internal regulations.
  • To elect and recall the Head of the Department.
  • Approve the breakdown and distribution of expenses and their execution.
  • Approve the annual report of its activities.
  • Prepare the reports within its remit.
  • Schedule and coordinate the department's teaching workload and propose doctoral programmes.
  • Make such suggestions to the faculty or school board as it deems appropriate regarding study programmes.
  • Recommend the establishment of university research institutes and other research centres.
  • Organise courses in specialisation or outreach, seminars and lecture series within its areas of knowledge and specialities, and promote coordination of these activities with other departments.
  • Promote the formalisation of contracts with public or private entities to carry out scientific, technical or artistic work.
  • Propose for appointment the members of the selection committees for teaching and research staff, both civil servants and contract staff.
  • Proposing the appointment of emeritus and visiting professors.
  • Proposing the hiring of staff for research purposes to carry out temporary or specific work
  • Creating committees.

 

Departmental Council elections are held in person.
