Users, installation, and management of T-CAT
The T-CAT is a certificate, issued by the Consortium Open Administration of Catalonia-AOC Consortium, for recognized electronic identification and signature that guarantees users' identity on the Internet and enables online management with various administrations.
This certificate ensures the integrity and confidentiality of the data sent.
The T-CAT allows you to sign emails, electronic documents, and web forms as a person holding a specific position.
The use of this device is reserved for members of the university community who, by virtue of their position, are required to sign electronic documents.
The turnaround time for the certificate, from the acceptance of the application by the Office of Information and Documentation Management (OGID), is approximately one month.
You can apply for the T-CAT to the OGID via the email address certificacio.digital@uab.cat.
When the CSUC (Consorci de Serveis Universitaris de Catalunya), the body that issues this certificate, sends the cryptographic card to the OGID, the staff of this office will contact you so that you can collect the certificate in person.
Once you attend the OGID offices and sign the relevant documents, your T-CAT will be issued to you.
At this point, you will be told what the certificate is for, how to use it, and where you can save your electronic documents, among other considerations.
Subsequently, you will receive the PIN and PUK codes by email.
Reader and service activation
To use the T-CAT, you must have a reader into which the card containing this certificate can be inserted.
On the Open Administration Consortium of Catalonia (AOC) website you can find a list of accredited lecturers.
- Installing the card reader software. If your computer does not have a card reader, you will need to purchase one and install the corresponding drivers, which are usually supplied with the device. You can download them from the reader manufacturer's website.
Once you have located the drivers, simply double-click on the icon (usually Setup) and they will be installed on your computer.
The new equipment from the ¿Renovi Plan¿, both desktop and laptop computers, comes with this reader and the corresponding software installed by default.
- Enabling the `Smart Card¿ service in Windows. To enable this service, follow these steps: Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services.
Comproveu que el servei "Tarjeta inteligente" estigui en estat "Iniciado". Check that the `Smart Card¿ service is in the `Started¿ state. If not, double-click on the service and, in the configuration window that appears, select the ¿Automatic¿ start type and press the `Start¿ button.
T-CAT Software
You need to install the card's software, or ¿Token Manager¿.
Additionally, if you use your certificate with Firefox, you need to configure the ¿Security Devices¿ section of this web browser.
Below you can find a link to the latest version of this card's software and a manual to help you set up Firefox.
T-CAT public keys
Public keys are required to use digital certificates when signing electronic documents and/or authenticating for online transactions.
To use the T-CAT, you must have the following public keys installed:
- Key of the CATCert certificate authority (acc.cer).
- Key of the university-affiliated certificate authority (ur_csrs.cer).
However, from April 2015, the Open Administration Consortium of Catalonia (AOC), the current certification authority, has outsourced this service to Firma Profesional (FP).
Among other things, this means that the AOC public key is being replaced by that of FP:
- The certificate authority key linked to universities, `ur_csrs¿, is replaced by the `ec_publicsector¿ key.
The key of the CATCert certificate authority `acc¿ is not replaced.
Therefore, T-CAT certificates issued from this date will need to be configured with the new Professional Signature key.
Below is a guide to configuring these keys in the Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome web browsers.
